ASCE: Straw Building

Time: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Location: Upper Engineering Gateway Plaza

Objective: Using the provided straws and tape, make the tallest building you can that can stand on its own. Each team will consist of 3-4 members and will be given 15 minutes to construct a building using the materials provided. After each team has constructed the building, it will be judged based on the height.

Prizes: First - $35, Second - $15, Third - $5

ESC: Catapult

Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: Upper Engineering Gateway Plaza

Objective: Construct a catapult that will launch a bean bag the greatest distance. The catapult must be contstructed beforehand and brought to the competition.

Prizes: First - $200, Second - $100, Third - $50

BMES: Anatomy Airigami

Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Location: Upper Engineering Gateway Plaza

Objective: In teams of 8-10, participants will have 1 hour to use balloons of various sizes, shapes, and colors to construct either a human body (with movable limbs) or a cross section of a eukaryotic cell containing major organelles.

Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Objective: Construct an airplane with the materials provided to fly the farthest distance.

SAE: RC Car Battle

Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Objective: Race RC cars to the finish!

ESC: Popsicle Stick Bridge

Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Location: Upper Engineering Gateway Plaza

Objective: Using just popsicle sticks and Elmer's glue, build a bridge that can withstand the highest load. Score will be determined by taking the load to weight ratio. The bridge that earns the highest score wins.

Prizes: First - $200, Second - $100, Third - $50

MATSCI: Egg Drop

Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Location: Engineering Tower

Objective: Build a contraption that holds eggs and will withstand the drop from the top of Engineering tower. The contraption that holds the eggs with the least damage wins.

FUSION: Castle Destruction

Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Location: Upper Engineering Gateway Plaza

Objective: Teams will construct a fortress and catapult which will be used to protect their figurines as well as attack the opposing teams' fortresses. The team which has at least 1 figurine standing in the end will be the winner.

Time: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Objective: A fiercely competitive battle of wits, the Rube Goldberg contest is an attempt to create a machine to fold a napkin into quarters in the most complex, wacky, and roundabout manner.

Triangle: MacGuyver

Time: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Location: Upper Engineering Gateway Plaza

Objective: In homage to the 1980s TV character who could wriggle out of any situation through his innovative use of duct tape, this event allows students to use tape, pocket knives, matches, string and other materials to accomplish a given task. Entrants are allowed to bring anything they can fit into their pockets, but materials will also be provided.
